The castle, churches, chapels, monasteries, Roman and Moorish ruins and Arab houses are important monuments where you may admire different architectural styles. One of the mandatory stops is at the Church of Misericórdia. Its main doorway is regarded as a masterpiece of the Algarve Renaissance.
At the top, it has 3 sculpted figures of great quality of Our Lady and 2 apostles. Also of interest are the magnificent tiles covering the lower part of the walls of the church. Made in Lisbon in about 1760, the series comprises 18 panels depicting the Works of Mercy.
We head towards the castle, where our visit ends. This military construction of Arab origin was rebuilt in the 13th century during the reign of D. Dinis.
